The Student Conservation Association (SCA), America’s #1 conservation service organization seeks a qualified applicant to lead, educate, and inspire 4 crew members for the Calumet Tree Conservation Corps Program in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service in NW Indiana.
Program Dates: March 20 – November 10, 2017
Supervise, transport, and mentor a team of four crew members, ages 17-25 for 32 weeks (Mon-Fri. 8hrs/day) to plant and water 1,000 trees in the Grand Calumet watershed within the Indiana communities of East Chicago, Hammond, Gary, and Whiting. The Crew Leader will coordinate the daily work of the crew members, ensuring that work is done in a safe, timely, and effective manner. They will be required to complete all necessary data collection, paperwork, reports, and other forms of information as needed. The Crew Leader will also work closely with SCA and USDA Forest Service staff to recruit, develop, and support new and existing volunteers at the four planting sites with a specific goal of increasing the number of individuals engaged in tree canopy stewardship in those communities.
